One Year Flies by when You're Having Fun!

Wow! Dustin and I just celebrated our one year anniversary! It's insane. Time has gone by so fast! So much has happened and we have gone through lots of good times and those not so good times as well. I don't know what I would have done without him the last year! He is an amazing husband and my best friend! I love him! Anyway. We wanted to do something new in celebration of our first year together so Dustin suggested we go camping-tent on the hard ground style. Now, camping is a word that has never really been familiar in my vocabulary. My family never went camping growing up and I dont care much for bugs and dirt anyway so it worked out fine. Well we decided it would be fun but we would have to start out slow for my sake-One night in Island Park. We found a pretty campsite just off Henry's Fork. It was beautiful! We were hungry but we decided to set up camp before we went to the cute little diner across the way. We borrowed a two-man tent from our friend Mike but were a little surprised as we were setting it up. It was SOOO tiny! It was the smallest tent I have ever seen.

That was all ok though. It would make a fun story! We went and ate pizza at a little diner and went "exploring." We started to go hiking but had to cut it short when thunder clouds rolled in with lightning flashing. We ran "home" as fast as we could as raindrops began to fall. We crawled into our tent hoping it would keep us dry. The little drops turned into pretty hard rain which turned into a hail storm! We squished towards the middle of the tent as much as we could because the edges started dripping and getting us wet! It was actually pretty fun though and after about 45 minutes it was nice and sunny again. We played a little frisbee and just hung out in our newly purchased lawn chairs until it got dark. Dustin utilized his boy scout skills and built us a nice little fire! We roasted marshmallows and made smores and just had a good time cozy by the fire.

We stayed by the fire together until it was time for bed. I was actually really enjoying myself! Dustin and I were both proud of my new-found outdoorsy side and got ready for bed and tried to make ourselves comfortabe in our lovely tent that was pitched on some nice gravel. It was really uncomfortable but we managed to fall asleep until my small bladder woke us up around 3 AM. Dustin, being the great hubby he is, crawled out of the tent and walked to the outhouse with me with no complaints. When we got back we settled down for at least a couple hourse of good sleep. About 15 minutes later, we heard footsteps and weird noises in the distance and figured some other campers needed the outhouse as well-but the steps keep coming right towards us and we could tell the noises were not other voices talking to eachother, but we didnt know what it was! The footsteps were slow and camp RIGHT UP to our tent. Whatever it was was making the weirdest noise I had ever heard! Dustin and I were frozen solid and I was totally freaking out inside! I knew it had to be a bear and figured I was just about to be eaten. The I bear started sniffing loudly right next to our heads and started poking his nose against the tent. It seemed like he stayed out our tent sniffing forever but finally, he must have decided he couldn't smell anything that interesting in our tent and slowly walked away. After ten minutes of silence I figured I was safe to demand we leave and vowed to never camp again. Dustin calmed me down and fell asleep while I stayed awake for the rest of the night. Anyway-that's our new exciting story that we like to tell everyone! haha. We took a picture of one of the pawprints we saw outside our tent. It's in the gravel so its hard to see but it was a bear for sure! Despite everything, we had a pretty good anniversary with our new little friend-but I think next year we will just go to a nice hotel for the night!

I'm Proud to be an American!

I loooove the Fourth of July. It's definately my favorite holiday next to Christmas. We love the Melalueca Freedom Celebration fireworks they have in Idaho Falls. Its supposedly the biggest firework show west of the Mississippi! All the good spots get taken early so we like to go early and just sit around, play games, eat etc while we wait for the fireworks to start. This year we ran into our friends Callie and Eric! They taught us how to play Canasta and Dustin cleaned house. He was a natural. The firework show was great as usual-it was "choreographed" to music and lasted about 35 minutes. It was lot's o' fun!
